FLOOD ALERT : ASIUWHU INSPECTS IDP CAMPS IN DELTA
By Anita Uche Ugbejie-Chukwuma
In its proactive measure to relocate flood victims to safe grounds in the state, Delta State Government has created internally displaced persons (IDPs) Camps in the state.
Chief Godspower Asiuwhu, Commissioner for Environment in the state and some staff of his ministry inspected the IDP Camp at Ahabam Primary Schoo, Ogbe- Afor Primary School and Alaka Grammar School, Ozoro in Delta State.
In a statement the commissioner said the Nigerian Metrological Agency ( NIMET) and the Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) had been consistent in their annual flood forecast and “this year predictions is not an exception.”
He said the state government was still setting up more IDP camps in some areas that were prone to flooding before the areas would be possibly flooded.
Asiuwhu advised those living in a low land to move to higher land and those affected by flood should relocate to the nearest IDP camps in their locations, that the camps were open with government officials to receive them.
